In 1975, Steven Seagal managed to become the first American who opened his own dojo in Japan. As shown, to be an instructor of the Japanese martial arts, being an American — more than difficult. These “check” continued for two years, and largely thanks to them, Seagal managed to gain a reputation as one of the leading masters of Aikido in the world.

– I do not take seriously the attacks from the public, when I was trying to blame the fact that I am not a professional. Often criticism I subjected those people who are not even met me. I preach the philosophy of Aikido, to which he came himself, carefully studying the classic style of Morihei Ueshiba. The advantage of my style is that I tried to adapt it to the mindset of Europeans and Americans. Maybe–that you deem it wrong, but I was forced to do circumstances. The fact is that many Americans and not Asians lack the perseverance and patience in order to comprehend all the subtleties of this martial art. Located in what people do not understand is quite difficult, and the discipline is not everything. In its pupils I'm trying to erase all the prejudices that they came to Aikido “empty bowls" that first need to be filled with patience for the painstaking and detailed study of all aspects of the great martial art.
