One of the unspoken rules of Aikido says that you can work with weapons only after careful development of equipment without weapons. In training, our students use bokken - a wooden blunt sword, but it is very important to imagine that you are working with a real katana and the price of each mistake is very high.
Tory holds bokken in his lowered hand, uke stands opposite and waits for the right moment to attack. You should always remember that in real life, attacking an armed and ready-to-fight enemy is fraught with serious injuries. Therefore, in training it is necessary to develop the skill of working with an armed enemy and reduce damage to a minimum.
In this situation, the only correct solution for the uke can only be the capture of an armed Tory hand. Simultaneously with capture of a hand, tori takes a step forward and slightly to the side, turns the palm of your hand up and strike to the head of uke with the back of bokken.
After a blow to the head, the initiative passes completely to the tories. Tori is also a step suited to the uke, turns on the right foot and the left takes a step behind uke.
Then the right leg moves to the right, giving a stable position tories. After Tory took a "strong" position, you can strike in the head, which will perform the reception more effectively.
After the blow, Tory performs a cross step with his left foot and frees his right hand from the grip. It is very important that Tory not just released his hand, and moved to the painful reception on the elbow. To do this, his left hand grabs the brush, and the right – rests on the handle of the bokken in the elbow of the uke.
Then tori performs a multidirectional effect on the elbow and wrist of uke – elbow pressure goes down, but the brush's spinning up. Painful reception is executed as long as the uke is not fully lie with his chest on the carpet.
Teaching this technique, the instructors of the school "Ten-Chi" recommend to pay attention to some aspects of the reception, which will allow you to perform it with maximum efficiency:
- the first few times the reception is very slow to feel your body at each stage;
- wait until the enemy starts to act first;
- aim for the head or neck when striking the back of the bokken;
- strive to ensure that the entire reception was performed as a single action;
- gradually add sword work by simulating different strokes;
-practicing the technique with a weapon, students also learn the important principle of Aikido is to spare and not to kill the enemy.
